You want photographs of your wedding. You also want to be there for it.

Documentary wedding photography leaves room for both. We pay attention to what is happening, anticipate moments where we can, and give direction when it helps. Your day keeps moving.

What does documentary wedding photography mean?

It means photographing the day as it happens.

Your dad reacting during the ceremony. A friend laughing halfway through a toast. Someone straightening your collar before you walk outside. These moments do not need to be recreated.

There is still room for portraits. The difference is how much of the day revolves around making them.

Will we still get family portraits?

Yes. Family portraits have a place in the day.

A short list agreed on beforehand helps us keep them organized. We make time for the people you want photographed together, then let everyone return to the celebration.

Documentary coverage includes the photographs you planned for and the moments you could not have put on a list.

What if we feel awkward in front of a camera?

You do not need to arrive knowing how to pose.

During couple portraits, we can help with where to stand, where the light is, and what to do next. There is a difference between giving you a little guidance and asking you to perform for an hour.

For the rest of the day, you have other things to think about. We work around them.

How is editorial photography different?

Editorial portraits usually involve more deliberate choices about light, background, clothing and composition. Documentary photographs begin with what is happening.

A wedding gallery can include both.

For us, the moments come first. When there is time for a portrait, we pay attention to the setting and give it the care it needs.

What changes at a Palm Springs wedding?

The light and the venue affect where and when portraits work best.

An open lawn, a shaded courtyard and a room with window light each offer something different. Sunset matters, but so does how much time you want to spend away from your guests.

We talk through those choices before the wedding. A useful plan makes room for photographs without turning the whole day into a photography schedule.

What should we look for when choosing a photographer?

Ask to see a complete wedding gallery.

A few portraits can show you someone’s style. A full gallery shows you how they handle the ceremony, family groups, changing light and the reception. It also shows whether the quieter parts of the day receive the same attention.

Look for photographs that make you feel something, and an approach you would be comfortable having around you.
